FAQ's

More Freedom to Provide Truly Child-Centered Care

Insurance companies often require specific diagnoses, rigid treatment plans, or proof of “medical necessity” before they will cover services. This can limit the type, length, or frequency of therapy a child is allowed to receive.

Private pay allows us to design therapy based solely on what your child needs—not what an insurance policy will approve.

No Delays or Denials

It’s very common for insurance to:

• Deny speech therapy if delays are considered “educational” instead of “medical.”

• Only cover a narrow list of speech or language conditions.

• Require long approval processes before therapy can begin.

Private pay means your child can start services immediately without waiting for authorizations or risking denied sessions.

Consistent, High-Quality Sessions

Insurance may limit:

• How many sessions per year

• Session length

• How long a child can stay “eligible”

Private pay ensures the frequency and duration of therapy remain exactly as your child needs, allowing better progress and more personalized support.

More Time With Your Therapist

Because we’re not spending time navigating insurance paperwork, appeals, and billing requirements, our time and attention go directly to your child and your family.

What ages do you work with?

We serve children from infancy through adolescence. Each therapy plan is tailored to the child’s developmental level, communication needs, and learning style. However, we do accept adult clients who are pursuing speech therapy for articulation or fluency concerns.

How long are sessions?

Most sessions are 30–45 minutes, depending on the child’s age, attention, and goals. We provide recommendations after the initial evaluation so every child receives the amount of therapy that best supports progress.

What does the evaluation include?

A comprehensive evaluation typically includes:

• Parent interview

• Review of medical, developmental, or school history

• Standardized and/or play-based assessment

• Observation of communication skills

• A written report with individualized goals and recommendations

This ensures we fully understand your child’s strengths and needs before starting therapy.

How often will my child need therapy?

Therapy frequency varies, but most children benefit from 1–2 sessions per week.

Your child’s plan is based on:

• Severity of the delay or disorder

• Age

• Attention and learning style

• Family goals

We’ll discuss the ideal schedule after the evaluation.

How long will it take to see progress?

Every child is unique, so timelines vary. Progress depends on:

• Consistency of attendance

• Parent involvement

• Type of goals

• Child’s age and learning style

We provide regular updates, home strategies, and goal adjustments to maximize success.

Do you offer parent coaching?

Yes. We strongly believe the most effective therapy happens when parents are supported and involved. We provide clear strategies, at-home activities, and ongoing guidance so you feel confident helping your child between sessions.

Can I stay in the session with my child?

Absolutely. Parent involvement is encouraged, especially for younger children. Some older children may benefit from working one-on-one with the therapist for part of the session, but you are always welcome to observe.

Do you provide homework or home practice?

Yes. We offer simple, play-based activities that strengthen skills outside the clinic. Home practice significantly improves carryover and long-term progress.

How do you communicate with parents about progress?

We give ongoing updates during or after sessions and provide progress summaries at regular intervals. If goals need to shift, we discuss them with you so therapy always remains aligned with your child’s needs.

Do you collaborate with schools, physicians, or other therapists?

Yes. With your permission, we can communicate with teachers, pediatricians, or other specialists to ensure your child receives consistent and coordinated care.

What types of speech or language concerns do you treat?

Examples of areas we can support include:

• Speech sound/articulation delays

• Language delays (expressive and receptive)

• Late talking

• Social communication

• Fluency/stuttering

• Early intervention needs

I can customize this list based on your actual offerings.

What is your cancellation policy?

A clear and consistent attendance policy helps children make steady progress. We require 24 hours’ notice, (see cancellation polices for full details) for cancellations and rescheduling.

Do you offer teletherapy?

If applicable: Yes, we offer secure virtual sessions for families who need flexibility or live outside the immediate area.

What should my child bring to therapy?

Just themselves! If needed, we may ask for school reports, previous evaluations, or teacher notes, but we’ll let you know in advance.
